Not Oregano, Not Basil, but... "Time waits for no man." "There's no time like the present." "Time is the rider that breaks youth."
All these quotes exist about one seemingly simple concept: time. Something we can't control, something we can't quite understand, something we can't kick in the ass when it comes to bite us. Despite this we rely on time not because we want to but because we have to. Time to go. Time to get up. It's about time. Time's up.
In a period of two months, time can better a person's life, worsen another's, destroy a part of a country, bring about change to someone who didn't want it, give someone room to set their lives in order, render a blog completely barren (whoops). If I write down all the big and small things that have happened to me in the past two months, that list would be filled with some happiness, some crappiness and just some basics of life, just like most people in this world. The paradox of our time is that with all the things that have bettered our lives, so much more has been sacrificed. We buy more shit we don't need, but enjoy them less. We focus on how to make a living but not how we want to live our lives. When it comes down to it, time is a bullshit excuse for us to not live our lives. The "everything can wait for me" attitude doesn't fly in this universe. While you're waiting to accomplish things, meet new people, better your life in some way, opportunities are going to fly by and one day you're going to look back and say, "Dammit. Why did I wait so long?" Don't be time's bitch. Make time your own bitch and use it to your advantage. What have you got to lose? More time? You've got plenty, but use it wisely.
Here's my two-month list: Mom had major surgery - became a male-nurse for a while, triumphed in a lame Physics class, had a fight with another class, declared war on an entire department at school, scheduled surgery, cancelled surgery cause of new bogus health condition, took old people medication for said bogus condition, sold my first car, got my first new car, got a UCLA parking pass (no joke), went to first football games of the season, started a new marching season, completed intense round of band camp, completed yearly tan as a result of band camp, auditioned for 2nd trumpet, got promoted to 2nd trumpet, wore toga in public, wore pirate costume in public, accosted by drunk individuals, laughed at individuals, made many new friends - some long-lasting, some not, transveresed into the realm of upper-classman status, wrote a semi-not-so-much-meaningful blog entry.
What's yours?
